Abstract
Recently, kinetic arrest of martensitic transformation was reported in Ni–Co–Mn–In alloys. The transformation shows time dependence, and proceeds even during the heating process. In this study, we comprehensively explain the reason for such phenomena based on a model previously derived by one of the authors: any martensitic transformation is isothermal, showing a C-curve in the time–temperature–transformation diagram. Our experimental results from an Ni45Co5Mn36.5In13.5 alloy confirm the validity of the model.
