Abstract
Rapidly solidified Ti–36Ni–7Sn (at.%) alloy amorphous ribbon was crystallized in the sequence amorphous–(Ti,Sn)2Ni–B2–Ti3Sn. The crystallized ribbon consisted of the B2, (Ti,Sn)2Ni and Ti3Sn phases with grain sizes of <100 nm. The crystallized ribbon showed the B2–R–B19′ martensitic transformation behavior. The temperature gap between TR∗ and MS∗ in the ribbon was larger than that of the ingot prepared by conventional casting; this difference was ascribed to precipitation hardening due to nanostructuring of the (Ti,Sn)2Ni and Ti3Sn particles.
