Abstract
The Schmid factors for four slip systems (basal 〈a〉, prismatic 〈a〉, pyramidal 〈a〉 and 〈c + a〉 slips) and two twinning patterns ({101¯2} and {101¯1} twins) were systematically calculated in magnesium as a function of angles between the c-axis and the loading direction. The results generated in this study can be effectively used to interpret deformation behaviors, including describing the flow stress and characterizing deformation behaviors, in magnesium and some hexagonal metals whose c/a axial ratios approximate to that of Mg (1.624).
