Abstract
Synchrotron radiation diffraction has been used to evaluate the evolution of internal elastic strains within the magnesium and the long period stacking ordered (LPSO) phase in an Mg97Y2Zn1Gd0.5 (at.%) alloy during in situ tensile testing. During plastic deformation, the LPSO phase carries an additional load transferred by magnesium grains due to its higher Young’s modulus.
