Abstract
Here we reveal that a Cu/Cu laminated composite with an appropriate mechanical contrast between constituent layers can effectively improve the toughness and fatigue strength of cold rolled Cu. The local interface delamination-induced retardation of cracking and the secondary initiation of fatigue cracks at inner layer surfaces are the main mechanisms. Such the single material laminated with mechanical contrast provides a potential way to improve fatigue strength.
