Abstract
A novel localized creep test, named the shear punch creep test (SPCT), has been devised. The validity of this method in the evaluation of creep properties was confirmed by obtaining stress exponents and activation energies close to those obtained in tensile creep testing of an Sn–5Sb alloy. A material-independent constant was obtained for the calculation of equivalent tensile creep stress from the SPCT data. The SPCT is thus considered capable of acquiring reliable information on the creep behavior of materials.
