Abstract
⺠Chemical mechanism involved during the reduction of the silica on silicon powder is studied. ⺠The experimental transition temperature is consistent with thermochemical calculations. ⺠The measured weight loss is consistent with the mass balance of the reaction. ⺠The thickness of the silica layer at the powder surface is measured. ⺠The diffusion through the silica layer does not limit the reduction kinetics above 1000 °C.
