Abstract

Creep deformation of extruded magnesium, prepared via a powder metallurgical route with a final hot extrusion, is examined in the temperature range of 473–623 K. The greatest creep resistance is observed in specimens with the stress axis parallel to the extrusion axis and the lowest at declinations between 45° and 90°. Most of this orientation dependence can be accounted for by the variation in the resolved shear stress on the basal slip planes.
