Abstract
Selection of α variants is often reported in thermomechanically processed titanium alloys. Many workers have noticed that α variants are frequently situated at the grain boundary between β grains that share a common {1 1 0}β plane, but up to now such coincidence on the β grains could not be fully clarified. By careful examination of electron backscatter diffraction data published in literature, it has been established that the adjacent β grains are actually β variants inherited from the α → β transition.
