Abstract
This work presents a new method of calculating the solid fraction of a solidifying alloy, using cooling curve analysis. This method, called the equation-based Newtonian method, is unique in that an equation is used to calculate the solid fraction, rather than the baseline technique of previous cooling curve analysis methods. In comparisons, the proposed method has shown good agreement with other methods of cooling curve analysis.
