Abstract
A generalized morphological stability model for a planar interface during directional solidification was established in the framework of the marginal stability theory as an extension of Wang et al.’s model [H.F. Wang, F. Liu, W. Yang, Z. Chen, G.C. Yang, Y.H. Zhou, Acta Mater. 56 (2008) 2592]. Compared with Wang et al.’s model, numerical calculation shows that the present model has a broader range of application and provides more accurate predictions. A satisfactory agreement between the model’s prediction and available experimental data was also obtained.
