Abstract
With the help of a high-speed camera, shear band propagation in a Zr-based metallic glass during compression was captured and images were analyzed using a digital image correlation method. The shear velocity was calculated and further compared with that measured from using strain gages. The images also showed that localized shear occurs in a simultaneous fashion, i.e. shear band operates simultaneously across the entire shear plane, rather than in a progressive manner.
