Abstract
A relatively simple flow-line model is presented for the description of the deformation mode in equal channel angular extrusion. The plastic deformation zone (PDZ) is assumed to be fan-shaped. It is shown that the trajectory of the material flow within the PDZ has an elliptic shape. Analysis of experimental flow lines in Al deformed in 90° and 120° dies shows that the form of the flow lines is approximately elliptical.
