Abstract
We report the formation of a Ni-rich bulk metallic glass with a diameter of 15 mm, the largest size known in Ni-rich alloys. It was found that the minor addition of boron plays a critical role in the dramatic improvement of glass-forming ability of Ni-rich Ni–Pd–P alloy. Thermal and chemical analyses suggest that the improved glass-forming ability is associated with the decrease in fragility and the impurity scavenging.
