Abstract
We investigated the magneto-structural transformation characteristics in melt-spun ribbons of ferromagnetic Ni–Mn–Ga Heusler-type alloys. A typical composition of Ni55Mn20.6Ga24.4 showed both martensite and magnetic transformation occurring at >300 K. The magnetic field-induced strain in such a composition was found to be −0.016% at 600 kA m−1.
