Abstract
Oxidation behavior of C–Mn–Si transformation-induced plasticity-aided steel during dew-point control was investigated. Surface oxidation appeared as discontinuous, plate-shaped oxides aligned parallel to the surface, while the internal oxidation was revealed as rod-shaped oxides aligned normal to the surface. The alloy revealed amorphous Si–O, crystalline MnSiO3 and the Si–O oxide surrounded by Mn–O oxide. The types of oxide formed were determined by the kinetics of relative mobility and the concentration of the alloy-forming elements.
