Abstract
Solidification and remelting of aluminum though alumina preform under a centrifugal force field were modeled numerically. Transient solidification and remelting phenomena appear on the infiltration front in three distinct regions: the remelting region, the solid–liquid congruent melting region and the uninfiltrated region. The regional extent of solidified metal and its solid volume fraction increase with the moving of the infiltration front. The speeds of the infiltration and remelting fronts decrease with decreasing porosity and rotational frequency.
