Abstract

Two types of powder compacts of particle orientation were prepared by drying alumina slurry in a high magnetic field and cold isostatic pressing, with spherical and elongated alumina particles. The relationship between sintering shrinkage anisotropy and particle orientation was quantitatively examined for these compacts. There was a linear relationship between the sintering shrinkage anisotropy and particle orientation degree for both the spherical and elongated particle compacts, and the slope was larger in the latter than in the former.
