Abstract
Deformation on a sample surface was observed and the acoustic emission (AE) response was recorded during compression of salt-replicated AlSi foams of different pore size. During compression, formation of deformation bands with concomitant strain hardening was observed. The wavy character of the AE count rate vs. strain dependence was correlated with the deformation process, e.g. with the formation of deformation bands, and it was found that this wavy character yields information on the localization of the deformation.
