Abstract
Duocel open-cell aluminum foam (20 PPI) was tested with the long axis of the cells oriented longitudinal or transverse to the loading direction, and for both orientations the samples were both annealed and heat treated. Using the extrapolated stiffness at zero per cent strain, the strain-hardening exponent and the yield stress of the base material, the plastic collapse stress is predicted as a function of the relative density by a modification of the Gibson and Ashby scaling law.
