Abstract
The effect of carbides on the nucleation and growth of recrystallization in an experimental directionally solidified nickel-base superalloy was studied. It was found that carbides may act as nucleation sites of recrystallized grains by a particle stimulated nucleation mechanism. However, they prevent the migration of recrystallization grain boundaries through various pinning mechanisms.
