Abstract
The effect of the substitution of Ag and Ni for Cu on the glass forming ability (GFA) of Cu60Zr30Ti10 alloy has been studied. Although the substituted elements have a positive heat of mixing with Cu, the GFA was enhanced substantially in the Cu40Ni5Ag15Zr30Ti10 alloy, enabling the fabrication of a 6 mm diameter glassy rod. The plasticity improved only when Ag was substituted with Cu in a limited composition range.
