Abstract
As-cast hypoeutectic Mg–Si alloy showed a high damping capacity at room temperature. This resulted from the co-effect of damping peaks P0 and P1 which were detected at 0 °C and 100 °C, respectively. P0 and P1 were considered to possess similar properties and they were caused by the interaction between dislocations and impurity atoms or vacancies. Heat treatment strongly influenced the damping capacity of this Mg–Si alloy.
