Abstract
The response peak stresses of three stainless steels (SAF 2205, SAF 2507 and 254 SMO) show a trend of an initial cyclic hardening followed by a cyclic softening under different strain ratios and amplitudes. The fatigue life of austenitic 254 SMO, with high Cr, Ni and Mo content, is superior to both duplex stainless steels composed of ferrite and austenite phases.
