Abstract
Local atomic structure of rare earth elements (RE = Sm, Gd, Tb, Dy) in binary Al-rare earth (RE) metallic glasses has been studied by the X-ray absorption fine structure at the L3 edge of RE atoms. Obtained values of the interatomic distances and the coordination numbers are in agreement with the high-efficiency packing topological model.
