Abstract
The role of vicinal twin boundaries in tensile deformation of nanocrystalline materials is investigated using molecular dynamics. Lattice dislocations are emitted from the intersection of the step structures with general grain boundaries, resulting in significant dislocation activity. The results are discussed in terms of the mechanical properties of twin dominated structures.
