Abstract
It is shown that the modest pressures used in hot isostatic pressing alter the equilibrium proportions and thus the properties of phases in Ti–46Al–8Nb. These results are interpreted in terms of the atomic volumes of the phases and of the potential of pressure to modify the properties of alloys.
