Abstract
The structure of the high strength and ductile Ti60Fe20Co20 alloy in its as-solidified state consists of the primary dendrites of cP2 Ti(Fe, Co) compound and an eutectic consisting of the cP2 Ti(Fe, Co) compound and BCC cI2 β-Ti solid solution. The cI2 β-Ti solid solution phase exhibits a dislocation-type deformation mechanism, while no dislocations but shear bands were found in the cP2 Ti(Fe, Co) phase. Strain-induced amorphization is observed in cooperation with the formation of the martensitic mP4 phase from the crystalline cP2 intermetallic compound.
