Abstract
A novel approach to the fabrication of a globularized fine-grained structure in γ + α2 titanium aluminide alloys has been proposed. The approach includes the use of specially designed alloys and a globularization anneal that excludes any primary hot working. As was demonstrated for the Ti–43Al–7(Nb,Mo)–0.2B alloy (in at.%), this resulted in superplastic behavior in the temperature range of T = 1050–1130 °C and a strain rate of ε′ = 1.7 × 10−4 s−1.
