Abstract
Isothermal oxidation tests of several ferritic and Ni-base alloys were conducted at 800 °C for 500 h in air. The concentrations of Mn and Ti in the ferritic Fe–Cr alloys had a significant effect on the oxidation rate and the scale area specific resistance. High alloy purity was beneficial to the oxidation resistance and oxide scale adherence. Two Ni-based alloys, Haynes 230 and 242, showed lower weight gain and scale area specific resistance than the ferritic alloys.
