Abstract

A simple and straightforward method for evaluating and predicting elastic moduli of ionic minerals at high temperatures is developed based on the approximation, as suggested first by K. Wang, R.R. Reeber [J. Mater. Res. 11 (1996) 1800], that the temperature derivative of the work done by thermal pressure approaches a constant at high temperature and Tallon's method of generalization [J.L. Tallon, J. Phys. Chem. Solids 41 (1980) 837]. The tests on MgO and CaO demonstrate that the agreement between the calculated results obtained from the present method and the corresponding experimental data is very good. It has been shown that the relations presented here are in good inter-consistency and the present method is far better as compared with the earlier similar investigations.
