Two lanthanum(III) complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) with anionic uracil-1-acetato and 5-fluorouracil-1-acetato ligands, [La(phen)X3]n[La(phen)X3]n, X=Uracil-1-Acetate (UA) and 5-Fluorouracil-1-Acetate (5-FUA), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectroscopy and studied by XRD powder diffraction, thermal analysis and X-ray crystallography. The single crystal X-ray analyses show that each lanthanum(III) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from phen, seven carboxylate oxygen atoms and one carbonyl oxygen atom from “UA” and “5-FUA” anions, resulting in a distorted bicapped square antiprism geometry. Packing of these compounds in the solid state via hydrogen bonding is discussed.
