The new compounds (DBUH)CuSnS3 (1) (DBU = 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene) and (1,4-dabH2)Cu2SnS4 (2) (1,4-dab = 1,4-diaminobutane) were prepared under solvothermal conditions. In compound 1 two SnS4 tetrahedra share common edges yielding an Sn2S6 moiety. Unusual nearly linear CuS2 dumbbells interconnect the Sn2S6 groups forming an one-dimensional [CuSnS3]− chain. Every anionic chain is surrounded by mono-protonated organic cations. In compound 2 SnS4 tetrahedra are joined by CuS3 triangles to form an one-dimensional anionic [Cu2SnS4]2− chain. Central motifs of the chain are distorted Cu4S4 and Cu2Sn2S4 cubes sharing common faces. Four edges of the former cube are capped by two Sn and two S atoms whereas the latter cube is capped by two Cu and two S atoms. An alternative description is based on the interconnection of two Cu4 tetrahedra by two S atoms to form a Cu8S2 unit. This unit is then joined in an alternating way by two SnS4 tetrahedra yielding the anionic chains. Both compounds were characterised by UV/Vis and Raman spectroscopies as well as thermoanalysis.
