Abstract
We designed and fabricated a superconducting cable in conduit conductor (CICC) sample to evaluate instabilities due to artificial non-uniform current distribution (NUCD). The CICC has 135 non-insulated NbTi/Cu strands with 3 × 3 × 3 × 5 twisting pattern. Those are divided into fifteen 2nd sub-cables and current distribution among them are controlled artificially by resistive heaters mounted on individual feeders connected to the 2nd sub-cables. In the experiment, NUCD was successfully introduced. It was preliminary found that the cable stability degrades significantly when there is non-uniform current distribution among the strands in the cable.
