Abstract
This paper analyses recent trends transforming the energy sector in the United States (US) and examines the long-term implications, while providing a critical overview of the path forward. The role of megaregions is examined as spatial and economic structures that offer great potential as entities that can accelerate the pace and support the more aggressive track the U.S. has embarked on, the path to a new energy economy.
