Abstract
An experimental test apparatus and method are presented for testing multiple configurations of solar-assisted heat pump systems. The purpose of the apparatus is to validate computer models, refine control strategies, test system reliability, and measure the performance of water-to-water heat pumps. The apparatus’ components, mathematical models, and data acquisition system are described in detail. The test procedures for characterizing equipment and performing system operating mode validations are documented. Validation results for system modes of operation are included, which demonstrate strong agreement between model and experimental performance.
