Abstract
Sustainability of urban communities is at risk in a global change context, where constraints posed by a limited access to raw materials, energy and sanitation will cause profound problems. The conventional approach of find technological solutions is often expensive and inefficient. To improve city resilience to global change threats, we need to develop a nested approach binding together various greening actions and management of green infrastructures. This paper presents the conceptual strategy being developed at the Coimbra City to increase urban ecosystems resilience, using them to reduce natural risks, the promotion of human health and increasing city food sovereignty.
