Abstract

Solid state reaction method involving mixing, calcinations and sintering, has been used to prepare high tempera ture superconductor with a nominal composition YBa2Cu3O7-δ, Y0.9Gd0.1Ba1.9Sr0.1Cu3O7-δ., Y0.9Pr0.1Ba1.9Sr0.1Cu3 O7-δ and Y0.9Pr0.2Ba1.9 Sr0.1Cu3O7-δ samples. Solid state laser Nd: Glass with different energies (0.5, 0.95 and 1.4) J has been used to study the effect of laser radiation damage through observing the effect on the structural and electrical properties of the irradiated sample. All samples lose their superconductivity and became semiconductors. In fact the stoichiometry of the irradiated superconductor samples was unaffected by the irradiation process for all samples investigated by XRD. Optical microscope showed the topography of the surface was completely changed relative to unirradiated area.
