New functionalized layered titanium phenylphosphonates were prepared by reactions of titanium(IV) tetraisopropoxide with corresponding phosphonic acids (phenylphosphonic, 4-carboxyphenylphosphonic, 4-sulfamoylphenylphosphonic, 1,4-benzenediphosphonic and 4-sulfophenylphosphonic acid) and subsequent hydrothermal or solvothermal treatments at 180 °C for 60 h. The compounds prepared were characterized by EDX, elemental analysis, TGA and powder X-ray diffraction. The ability of the compounds prepared to intercalate basic compounds was tested using aliphatic amines and diamines.
► New 4-functionalized titanium phenylphosphonates were prepared. ► Crystalline layered compound was prepared by solvothermal treatment. ► Titanium sulfophenylphosphonates are able to intercalate basic molecules.
