Abstract

In this work, a facile and inexpensive hybrid solution route is presented for the fabrication of multiferroic bulk TbMnO3. The phase purity of the sample was confirmed by the X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy measurements. The temperature dependent dc susceptibility data clearly showed the anomaly related to the ordering of Tb3+ moments as well as an anomaly that may be related to the Néel temperature. A signature of the Néel temperature and the spiral spin ordering were observed through the complex component of ac susceptibility.

► Multiferroic bulk TbMnO3 was prepared via a simple hybrid solution route. ► Néel temperature (TN) and ordering of Tb moments were observed in χ(T) measurement. ► TN and the transition to spiral-spin ordering were observed in ac susceptibility.
