Abstract
⺠The kinetics of oxidation in the air of FeAlCrZrB aluminide has been described based on a parabolic rate law. ⺠At temperatures below 900 °C a mixture of γ and θ type oxides grew slowly. ⺠A stable alumina formation beginning was observed at 900 °C. ⺠The activation energies for oxides growth are 184 kJ molâ1 above 900 °C and 345 kJ molâ1 below 900 °C. ⺠The thermal stresses occurring during cooling from 1100 °C are the reason for the oxide scale exfoliation.
