Abstract
Purification of 4N/5N gallium to 6N5 purity was carried out by hydro-chemical, vacuum-refining and zone-refining processes. For Vacuum refining and zone-refining processes, the simple, cost-effective and indigenous process equipment designed circumvent the costly imported components. The process parameters in each process were optimized for the effective removal of impurities from several ppm to ppb level. The trace metal impurities such as Fe, Cu, Zn, Pb, Cr, Mg, Ag, In, Al, Sb and Sn in the final purification process have been removed from 9040 ppb to 460 ppb by zone-refining which confirms the 6N5 (99.99995 at.%) purity.
