Abstract
Long-lasting CaAl2O4:Eu2+,Nd3+ phosphor was prepared by co-precipitation method. CaAl2O4:Eu2+,Nd3+ single phased phosphor was achieved by calcining the as-precipitated precursor at 1150 °C. Some other calcium aluminates, CaAl4O7 and Ca3Al2O6, were identified as the intermediate phase during the calcination process. The obtained phosphor showed a long afterglow peaking at 430 nm, a slight blue shift due to the decrease in grain size. The obtained phosphor revealed a faint afterglow when compared to the phosphor prepared through solid reaction routine, which can be ascribed to the different traps formed by the co-doped Nd3+ ion within the CaAl2O4 host.
