Abstract
⺠The formation of α-Fe2O3 nanowire during the oxidation of Fe is investigated. ⺠α-Fe2O3 nanowire formation is driven by Fe2O3/Fe3O4 interfacial compressive stress. ⺠Surface diffusion of Fe supplied from the Fe2O3 layer controls nanowire growth.
