Abstract
Carbon materials with nano-sized particles were found to be synthesized by defluorination of perfluoroorganic compound monomer, octafluoronaphthalene, at very low temperature of only 150 °C. In this reaction, the precursor compound reacted with sodium at their vapor phases to deposit solid carbon particles like a kind of chemical vapor deposition system. Their structural and morphological change by heat-treatment of product carbon was investigated. It was found that non-graphitized fibrous carbon and graphitized spherical carbon were co-synthesized at the same time. Lithium insertion behavior of OFN carbon was also investigated preliminarily in order to discuss the more detailed character of carbon by this defluorination method.
