Abstract

A new technology for the growth of single crystals of a spinel oxide is proposed. This principally new approach consists in variation of crystalline morphology by varying a catalyst (HF acid) content in a single bath containing catalyst and the cation scavenger content (metal foil). ZnAl2O4 crystals with hexagonal symmetry needle facets are obtained. The structure and composition of the crystals was analyzed using X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and energy dispersive analysis using X-rays (EDAX), respectively, and reported. This technique is more advantageous, low cost and simple method for spinel crystals than the traditional methods.
