Abstract
The preparation and characterization of polymers like poly(2-vinylpyridine), P-2VP and its derivative along with their conductivities are reported here. The polymer P-2VP was prepared by thermally polymerizing 2-vinylpyridine, 2VP, whereas its salt was prepared by simply acidification with HIO3. The formation of the P-2VP salt was confirmed by IR and 1H NMR techniques. Conductivities were determined from 30 to 90 °C in solid state. Observation indicated that the addition of IO3− ion increases the ionic conductivity of the polymer dramatically and the polymer P-2VP-HIO3 behaves as an intrinsic conducting polymer.
