Abstract
In this paper, an all-optical switch based on asymmetric T-shaped single nanoslit coated with Kerr nonlinear dielectric has been proposed and simulated by the finite difference time domain (FDTD) numerical method. The switching performance of the device, is attained by self-phase modulation (SPM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM). The required power for nonlinear XPM effect is only 2% of that of SPM. The other distinguished features of this switch, is its extinction ratio of higher than 6Â dB and very fast femtosecond response time. All these characteristics provide the contexts for the use of this structure in the photonic integrated circuit (PIC) as a bidirectional ON/OFF switch.
