Abstract
We present polarization spectroscopy in V-type configuration using two laser beams corresponding to the D1 and D2 lines of Rb atoms in counter-propagating or co-propagating geometry. The frequency of the circularly polarized pump beam is tuned to the D2 line, whereas that of the linearly polarized probe beam is tuned to the D1 line of Rb atoms. The detected signal of the probe beam, which is the rotation of the linearly polarized electric field of the probe beam, is compared with calculated results based on rate equations. We found good agreement between calculated and experimental results.
