Abstract
We study the effect of different tapering profiles, on the intensity of optical similaritons, in a graded-index nonlinear waveguide. We illustrate the procedure to tailor sech2-type and parabolic tapering profiles of such nonlinear waveguides. For example, the sech2-type tapering profiles are obtained by the crucial observation that the equation governing the tapering profile can be transformed into a Schrödinger-like equation which enables us to introduce isospectral Hamiltonian approach. This technique enables us to obtain a wide class of tapering profiles, for the effective control of similariton structure and their dynamical behavior. Our procedure can help in modeling different tapering profiles that find practical applications.
